Take the White Water Walk during your Niagara Falls exploration and see Niagara’s most famous phenomenon right before your eyes! For over millions of years the rushing of white waters within the Niagara River has eroded the rock, creating the great gorge and a stunning natural whirlpool. Take the enclosed elevator down 70m (230ft), then through the 73m (240ft) long access tunnel, where you’ll be guided toward the Whirlpool rapids at the river’s edge. Take a stroll along the 305m (1,000ft) boardwalk and scope out the marvellous white water action at the two observation points. The water runs at various speeds of up to 40km an hour along the river and flows into the whirlpool at White Water Walk at 48km an hour, which causes the swirling current.

When the whirlpools suddenly occurred 4.500 years ago, it is estimated that it only took a few days, or even a few hours! The deepest part of the gorge is 98 metres at the escarpment.
