Old Fort Erie - Niagara Falls Travel Guide

Overview | Location

Old Fort Erie is located on the shores of Lake Erie and is directly across from Buffalo. This fort was once a very important military post during the War of 1812 and serves as a faithful re-creation of that era. Everyone who works there is dressed up according to what they wore back in the 1800's, guards are dressed in period clothing, rooms are as they were then, and re-enactments of the battles of the day. The Old Fort Erie had to be reconstructed due to old age and is now administered by the Niagara Parks Commission. Now that it has been rebuilt, it has a gift shop, snack bar, picnic area, and a playground for kids. It is a wonderful site to see so don't miss out. Check the website for tour dates and times.
